What causes fear of spiders?

Fear of spiders, in most instances, starts in childhood. It may be the result of a frightening or traumatic experience as a youngster. However, it could come from exposure and overreaction from observing family phobia or behaviour around spiders. Regardless of the original cause, the fear is imprinted as “fight or flight” reaction in the sympathetic nervous system. It is initially intended to be a protective mechanism, to keep you safe, and is hard wired into the subconscious mind.

What is Arachnophobia?
